The Madras High Court has announced that it will take up the hearing of cases demanding 50 per cent reservation for other backward classes in the central set of medical courses.

A number of parties including DMK, AIADMK and MPs have filed cases in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, which had heard the cases, advised the Madras High Court to approach the reservation. Accordingly, the petitions filed by the Madras High Court, Justice Subbiah and Krishnan Ramasamy came before the session today.

At the time, the DMK lawyer appealed for a speedy trial of the case as the second phase of consultation on medical supervision was underway. Similarly, appeals were made on the ground. The judges accepted this and said that they would hear cases of 50% reservation for other backward classes in all India reservation seats in medical studies tomorrow.

All the government and private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu offer 15% seats in medical courses and 50% seats in medical postgraduate courses.
