UP gang rape: India victim cremated 'without family's consent'
The family of a poor hindu woman who died after she was gang-raped has accused police officials of cremating her body without their permission.
The incident in which a 19-year-old girl was gang-raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh's Hadras district has shaken the entire country. The woman, who belongs to a listed ethnic community, was brutally assaulted and sexually abused by four men. The injured woman was found in a pool of blood. The men not only severely beat the girl, but also cut out her tongue, leaving many frozen in shock. The woman has been undergoing treatment in Uttar Pradesh for the past 2 weeks. He was shifted to a Delhi hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
In this situation, struggles have erupted across the country. The family and the public have blamed the police for the negligence. The demand for the death penalty for the 4 arrested in this case is getting stronger.
The family alleges that the police conducted the funeral at 2:30 last night without giving permission to the family. Parents have told Kankalanga that they have not even seen their daughter's face for the last time. They also said that the funeral did not take place according to their religious rites. However, the police explained that the family was involved and that there was evidence to that effect.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the setting up of a special inquiry committee to probe the Hadras sexual harassment. The three-member panel has been directed to file a report within seven days.
