Congress interim leader Sonia Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Modi condemning the petrol and diesel price hike. In this, Sonia Gandhi said that the price of gasoline and diesel is not only unreasonable but also unnecessary as an additional burden on the people who are already suffering due to coronation.

He said the government did not understand the reason for the hike in the price of petrol and diesel, as millions of people were affected by coronation, their livelihoods, small and large enterprises were affected, and the middle class and farmers were affected. Moreover, crude oil prices fell by approximately 9% in the international market over the past week and are not available to the public.

He said the government had raised the excise tax even though crude oil prices had historically declined over the past six years.

In the last six years, the excise duty on petrol has been increased by 258 per cent and the excise duty on diesel by 820 per cent. The government has earned Rs. Sonia Gandhi has urged the people to take action to reduce prices and benefit the people. In a letter to Prime Minister Modi, Sonia Gandhi said the government should take action to help people who need help in the most difficult time, directly into their hands.
